Consultation
Sometimes, it’s about asking the right question(s) and working as a cohesive group to get to the heart of any concern or issue. This is the premise of a “village.” Consultation services include gathering information to determine the base concern, what interventions have been attempted, what results were achieved, and discuss and problem-solve next steps to increase positive outcomes.
Recently, this has included consulting with a district seeing limited progress with an IEP. Reviewing the data already completed, we were able to identify strategies and services not previously addressed to help a student progress to grade level skills.
This service is offered to parents, teachers, administrators - any educator requesting consultation directly related to a student.
“As a teacher, I occasionally have a student with needs that go beyond my expertise. Ms. Daniel was always my sounding board, due to her depth of knowledge regarding specific behavior modification and ability to pinpoint academic interferences. Her insight often gave me the perspective I needed to determine my path forward with these kids. Not only was I better equipped to advocate for my students, but I was better able to meet their needs in the classroom. On one occasion, I had a student that was struggling to complete his work and often appeared to be distracted or daydreaming. I wasn't totally convinced that his behavior was ADD related, so I asked for input from Ms. Daniel. After observing this child and collaborating with me, she suggested some things which eventually led the parents to a diagnosis of selective mutism. The parents and I were grateful for her ability to look beyond typical ADD symptoms to see other possibilities. Her knowledge is truly comprehensive!” ~ Celynn B., 2nd Grade Teacher
